Celebrate the seasons at one of the Nature Discovery Center’s family friendly community events. These free or low-cost events include children’s crafts and activities, book fairs or nature markets, food and family fun:
Spring Fling – Come join us the third weekend in April for a green spring celebration. Can crush recycling; crafts, music, guided nature walks in the park all make for a fun, informative and relaxing day amid the wildflowers of spring. FREE
Summer Nature Nights – Spend a sunny summer evening in Russ Pitman Park. Nature nights, to be held on July 11 and August 8, 2012, will feature Family Friendly Talks, nature walks, live animals, crafts, and snacks. Suggested donation - $5 per family.
Pumpkin Patch - Usually the second weekend in October, pumpkins, craft vendors, rock wall, rope bridge, food, games, prizes and more fill the park with activity. Visitors can buy tickets to participate in the activities of their choice, purchase pumpkins, food, or crafts, visit our Discovery Rooms, browse the Scholastic Book Fair and more.
Holiday Market Days – from the beginning of December until Christmas, we display our collection of gifts for the nature–lovers in your life. From insect nets to magically “growing spiders”, Sun Print kits to balloon powered racing cars, Texas nature coffee table books and Great Texas Birding Trail Maps, there is something for everyone. It coincides with our annual free Photos with Santa, the first Saturday in December, sponsored by John Daugherty Realtors.
Art in the Park - April brings a return of our now annual Art in the Park, featuring outdoor art installations by local and regional artists.
The Annual Bellaire Home Tour celebrates the diversity, creativity, and personal style of Bellaire’s homes. Six homes are on display each year. Volunteer docents help guide visitor through the homes, describing the special features in each room or area, as they get an inside look at some of the most interesting homes in the area.
A benefit performance of Edward Albee's Everything in the Garden will take place on April 12th, 2012 at the Theatre Southwest. There will be a wine and cheese reception before the performance. Please buy your tickets online and come out to enjoy the play and support the Center's science and nature programs.
Each fall, the Twilight Gala brings people together for an evening of fun, food, music and dancing, live and silent auctions, as we celebrate the year’s accomplishments and set our sights on new achievements. The volunteer Twilight volunteer committee members create decorations, collect auctions items, and plan the music, venue and food with lots of fun along the way.
Support the Center’s science and nature programs for Houston’s children by participating or attending the Annual Bellaire Home Tour in the spring or our Twilight Gala in the fall.
