Community Events

Celebrate the seasons at one of the Nature Discovery Center’s family friendly community events. These free or low-cost events include children’s crafts and activities, book fairs or nature markets, food and family fun:

Spring Fling – Though we are not holding this event in 2015, Spring Fling is usually the third weekend in April. Can crush recycling; crafts, music, guided nature walks in the park all make for a fun, informative and relaxing day amid the wildflowers of spring. FREE

Summer Nature Nights – Spend a sunny summer evening in Russ Pitman Park. Nature nights will feature Family Friendly Talks, nature walks, live animals, crafts, and snacks.  Suggested donation - $5 per family.

Pumpkin Patch - Usually the third weekend in October, pumpkins, craft vendors, rock wall, rope bridge, food, games, prizes and more fill the park with activity. Visitors can buy tickets to participate in the activities of their choice, purchase pumpkins, food, or crafts, visit our Discovery Rooms, browse the Scholastic Book Fair and more.

Art in the Park - April brings a return of our now annual Art in the Park, featuring outdoor art installations by local and regional artists.

Fundraising Events

Each fall, the Twilight Gala brings people together for an evening of fun, food, music and dancing, live and silent auctions, as we celebrate the year’s accomplishments and set our sights on new achievements. Twilight volunteer committee members create decorations, collect auctions items, and plan the music, venue and food with lots of fun along the way.

Support the Center’s science and nature programs for Houston’s children by participating or attending Twilight Gala in the fall.
