Fred Collins, manager of the Kleb Woods Nature Preserve, Precinct 3, Harris Co., and our former director, is returning again to lead our annual Spring Migration Field trip to Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge and High Island! For the last several years we have seen more than 100 species including many species of warblers, vireos, buntings, orioles and other migrants. We have also picked up many helpful hints in identifying shorebirds and other birds from Fred.
This all day field trip will take place on Friday, April 25, during the height of spring migration. As usual, we will be traveling by bus - complete with speaker system and restroom. The bus makes a great observation platform while birding Shoveler Pond and the roadside canals of Anahuac NWR.
The Nature Discovery Center provides juice, coffee, water and soft drinks for field trips. Any donations to the Nature Discovery Center to help defray these costs are greatly appreciated. Bring your own snacks, lunch, insect repellent, binoculars, and field guides. Rain will bring down more birds for us to observe, so trips go regardless of weather. Dress and be prepared accordingly. Bus trips depart from the Evergreen Pool parking lot on Evergreen Street just south of Russ Pitman Park. We plan to be back by 7 PM.
