Don Verser will lead a “Sparrows and Prairies” field trip for senior members of the Nature Discovery Center this winter. We will be looking for wintering sparrow species as well as learning about the prairie habitats they live in, including the plants and insects we find as we go. This trip is open to any Nature Discovery Center member, age 50 or over by February 3, 2012.  Note: This trip will include a good amount of walking through open prairies on rough, uneven and sometimes wet ground.

The trip will depart at 8am from Evergreen Pool parking lot (on Evergreen Street at Newcastle in Bellaire - across from Russ Pitman Park) and return by 5pm. Don has not yet decided on the best places to visit on this trip, and the potential of finding good prairie habitat for sparrows changes. Therefore the decisions of exactly which places we will go will be made closer to the date.

This trip will go regardless of the weather. Dress and be prepared accordingly.  Water proof boots may be recommended depending on the weather at the time of the trip.

This trip will be limited to the first 20 participants who sign up. If the trip is full when you try to sign up, please sign up on the wait list as there are usually cancellations.

Our thanks to Steve Radack and Harris County, Precinct 3, for providing bus service for this trip.

The Nature Discovery Center will provide water and soft drinks.  Bring your own snacks, lunch, lots of insect repellent, binoculars and field guides. (If you need to borrow a pair of binoculars please let us know when you register.)

Donations to the Nature Discovery Center for staff time and drinks are appreciated.
