“Stinky” the Stinkpot Musk Turtle
Stinky has been living in our large aquatic tank at the Center for years after being donated by a frequent visitor. You may not always get to see Stinky when you visit, because he’s really a crepuscular (dawn and dusk) turtle, and he likes to stay hidden under the rocks during the daytime hours. Stinkpots are carnivorous turtles that enjoy all kinds of small aquatic animals; like snails, shrimp, worms and insects. They’re called stinkpots, because of the nasty smelling musk they release when disturbed.
